I have had a lot of that shit when selling things on CL. I would respond with a link to your favorite XXX site.

Why, what’s wrong with this? (unless you don’t actually have a car for sale)

I’ll settle for some commiserating with some Oppos.

Are you asking me a serious question, or are you trolling me?
Assuming the former, if this guy really wanted to talk to me about my car, he would have at least mentioned the model of the car. This guy is just here to waste my time.

It was serious, thanks for actually answering... All I’ve ever sold on CL is random household items, never something ‘serious’ like a car. With that in mind, I’d have replied to the guy. But, given you wouldn’t have, I thought maybe his email was some blatant scam/etc. I wasn’t aware of, hence my question.

Yes. I’ve dealt with enough idiots/losers/buttheads/scammers that I can generally smell one a mile off. Whenever I reach out to a seller, I always make an effort to sound like I am serious. I always give my first name, always mention the item specifically. If you read this guy’s message a second time, see how flippant and vague it is, perhaps you can tell.
Now, having said all of that... I made a post on a bulletin board that I sometimes use looking for a transmission for my project van and a guy responded with a name and with some particulars that sounded pretty good. Slightly too good, but I stayed with him for a minute. But it’s a dumb place for him to scam, because the people visiting there are going to be experts and not fall for his garbage.
Anyhow, I hope any of this is useful for you. When Craigslist works right, there’s nothing better, and I keep on using it.
